Tips For the Best Garlic Bread With Cheese
This comforting classic takes garlic bread to the next level with a delicious twist—cheese!
I’ve lost count of how many times this bread has stolen the show.
And with these simple tips, you’ll make it even more irresistible:
Grate the cheese. For the best results, grate the cheese yourself rather than using pre-shredded.
Fresh is best. Use fresh garlic instead of jarred or powdered for the best flavor.
Watch closely. If broiling, keep a close eye so it doesn’t burn. Be sure to check the bread in 30-second intervals.
Cover it. If the bread is browning too quickly, tent foil over the top.
Slicing tip. Use a serrated knife and a gentle sawing motion to cut through the crispy crust without squishing the bread.
Make single portions. Instead of cutting the bread into two slabs, cut it into thick slices (like Texas toast). It’ll take a little longer but it’s easier to serve.
Mix things up. Try Provolone, gouda, or Monterey Jack. For a subtle kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. You can also add caramelized onions, crispy bacon bits, sun-dried tomatoes, or fresh herbs under the cheese.

How to Store
I highly recommend doubling the batch!
The bread freezes well and reheats beautifully. So you can have some on hand whenever a craving strikes.
To Store: Wrap leftovers tightly in aluminum foil or place in an airtight container. Refrigerate for 2-3 days. To Freeze: Wrap each piece in plastic wrap, then in aluminum foil, or store in a freezer-safe bag. Freeze for 1-2 months. Thaw before reheating for best results. To Reheat: Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. For a quicker option, microwave individual slices on high for about 30 seconds.
Note: Microwaving will make the bread softer, but it will still taste delicious.
